It’s natural disaster, we are helpless: Minister Ambati
Vijayawada, July 19: Minister for Water Resources Ambati Rambabu said its unprecedented flood to come in July month itself. Normally Godavari witnesses floods in July month ending or August. ‘This is natural disaster, we can’t do anything. Though unexpected, the government has taken up relief measures in flood-hit areas like never before,’ he added.
The Minister noted that many people are not leaving the flood-hit areas due to their cattle or for the love on their native village. Hence, they are supplying food and other facilities for them, he said.
Alleging that the then TDP government was responsible for the damage to diaphragm wall of Polavaram project, the Minister dared the TDP to discuss the issue in the Assembly. Chandrababu cans suggest another venue, if he do not want to come to the Assembly, he added.
He further said that there are no instances of constructing diaphragm wall without completing coffer dam. Besides, engineers said that nothing will happen even if coffer dam is not constructed and in fact diaphragm wall got washed away for incomplete works, he pointed out.
Rambabu said they couldn’t complete the lower coffer dam as per the schedule and planning to complete by July month end.
Responding to the allegations of Devineni Uma, Minister Rambabu agreed that he doesn’t know anything. “I didn’t works as Water Resources Minister for five years like Devineni. I am not an engineer. But I am learning things from the officials,’ he stated. Rambabu questioned that why Devineni, who promised to complete Polavaram project by 2018, was failed.
