Krishna Board asks Telugu states to deposit Rs 200 cr each
Amaravathi, May 2: Rs 1,123.41 crore is needed for taking up repair and modernization works for the joint projects of Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar. Also Rs 819.62 crore is needed every year for the maintenance of spillways, power generation centres and lift irrigation schemes, according to Krishna River Management Board (KRMB). As per the gazette notification issued by Central Jal Shakti department on July 15 last year, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States were asked to deposit Rs 200 crore each as seed money in the account of the KRMB.
In this context, Krishna Board chairman MP Singh wrote a letter to the CMs of both the States and to Central Jal Shakti department. In his letter, Singh mentioned a few points. They are - Rs 73.66 crore are needed to complete the works taken up in Srisailam project while Rs 207.25 crore is needed for the works of Nagarjuna Sagar.
The spillway flunge pool of Srisailam project was damaged and Rs 810.89 crore is needed for taking up repair works and Rs 31.61 crore for Sagar spillway repair works.
It will take minimum three to four years to complete repair and modernization works, which will cost about Rs 1,123.41 crore.
Rs 38.39 crore for Srisailam project; Rs 4.13 crore for the maintenance of two thermal power stations; Rs 372.89 crore for the maintenance of lift irrigation schemes depended on Srisailam; and Rs 415.41 crore are needed for the maintenance of Srisailam project.
The Board has rejected the proposal to decrease the seed money submitted by both the Telugu States. Each State should deposit Rs 200 crore at a single time in the board account.
