'Out-of-the-box thinking must for budding journalists'

Hyderabad, Oct.29: Senior journalist Prof. K. Nageshwar on Saturday exhorted students to think beyond the realm of possibilities while writing news stories and stated that the J-Hub was an opportunity to publish articles in print and web media platforms. Addressing candidates at the orientation session of the J-Hub in the Department of Communication & Journalism, here today, Prof. Nageshwar explained the modalities of working in the J Hub. He said it is a platform for students to hone their skills and make a career. Clarifying the notion that journalism as a profession pays meager salaries, he pointed out that candidates with right skills are always well paid. Compensation increases even as fresh graduates gain experience over a period, he observed. On the advantages of being a journalist, Prof. Nageshwar said, journalism offers immense challenges and also job satisfaction. “Good journalists get connected to masses and earn fame,” he stated and added that the J-Hub would be completely practical-oriented and candidates would be taken through the entire news writing process from idea to publication. Weekly review sessions will be held on every Saturday from 10 am in the Department, he said. Prof. K. Stevenson, Head, Department of Communication & Journalism, has briefed about the infrastructure --- Television studio and the news lab. He highlighted the initiatives in the Department which launched its You Tube channel-Osmania Journalism, a separate website for J hub – J hub.in to upload news items filed by candidates. He asked the students to avail the facilities and build a portfolio to ease their entry into the media. Prof. B. Balaswamy exhorted students to make use of these facilities and explore their innate talents Later, the faculty responded and clarified doubts among students from various colleges and students from the English and Foreign Languages University
