City police chief vows to prevent Ramya-like road accidents

Hyderabad, July 10: Expressing grief over the death of nine-year-old Ramya in a road accident at Panjagutta flyover after fighting for life for nine days, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner M Mahendar Reddy has stated they have registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against the driver, who was driving the car without having a license after consuming liquor. The accused was arrested and sent to judicial remand. Describing the baby’s death as heart-breaking and most unfortunate, Mahendar Reddy said all the evidence, including consumption of alcohol, CCTV footage have been collected to prove the guilt of the accused in the trial court. A requisition also has been filed in the court to take the accused into police custody and to conduct Test Identification Parade of the accused, he stated, adding that a report was being sent against the management of the bar, who served liquor to minors (below 21 years) to the Excise Commissioner for initiating legal action. The City Police Commissioner has said required measures will be intensified to prevent such tragic incidents in future in coordination with all the departments concerned.
