9 killed in Gujarat violence

Ahmedabad, August 27: Nine people ar reported to have died so far following violence erupted across Gujarat even as the Patel community continues to agitate for OBC status and other reservation benefits. After a brief arrest of the 22-year-old leader of the agitation Hardik Patel, violence erupted late Tuesday night. After Patel called for a State-wide bandh on Tuesday, protesters torched 100 buses and vandalised property. Meanwhile, the Army was called in on Wednesday to control the situation. They staged flag marches in Ahmedabad and Surat this morning. Schools and colleges remained shut in the State today also. Train services also suffered as protesters damaged tracks in several places.
