2,200 cops in Chittoor do not have driving licences

Chittoor, July 6: Hundreds of police personnel in Chittoor district were thronging Road Transport Authority (RTA) offices to obtain driving licences. The phenomenon surprised the common people and RTA officials alike. The issue came into light as higher officials inquired about the driving licences of police personnel in the district. The officials directed police personnel to immediately obtain licences as an inquiry revealed that 2,200 police personnel in the district did not have licences. Of the 1,003 police personnel who attended Learning Licence Test on Sunday, 494 candidates failed to clear the test and only 509 qualified the test. A majority of the police personnel who attended the test are due to retire soon.
