Andhra Pradesh Police Ushers in New Era with Launch of ‘AI4AP’ Pilot Project

Marking the beginning of a new era in the Andhra Pradesh Police Department, technology has been elevated to a higher level in the protection of law and order. With the objective of expediting criminal investigations, enhancing operational efficiency, and improving citizen services, the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based ‘AI4AP Police’ pilot project was launched on Wednesday. Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta formally inaugurated this prestigious project. As part of the first phase, the project will be implemented in Chittoor, Guntur, and Annamayya districts.

On this occasion, Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta stated that the primary objective of the project is to bring revolutionary changes to traditional policing methods. He explained that by overcoming field-level challenges through advanced AI technology, the project would establish new standards in digital policing. He described ‘AI4AP Police’ as a comprehensive artificial intelligence solution and expressed hope that it would not only reduce investigation time but also improve the quality of investigations, enhance conviction rates, and increase the level of citizen satisfaction.

The national-level ‘AI4 Andhra Police Hackathon’ conducted in June 2025 laid the foundation for this project. More than 200 innovators and technology experts from across the country participated in the hackathon, and the AI tools were developed based on the ideas that emerged from it. For project development and knowledge transfer, Surya Kotha, Chief Executive Officer of the United States-based generative AI company 4SightAI, was appointed as the knowledge partner. The Andhra Pradesh Police Department entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Sparity as the technology partner. With the support of the teams that won the hackathon, the AI tools were made ready for use within a span of just four months.

AI4AP Police: Eight Key Modules

As part of this project, eight distinct AI tools have been integrated into the policing system. Each of these plays a crucial role in law and order management and citizen services.

  • Petition AI:
This tool enables citizens to easily register their complaints. It automatically converts the victim’s narration, whether voice or text, into a structured digital petition, thereby speeding up the complaint registration process.

  • Digital Evidence AI:
This tool helps manage digital evidence in accordance with legal provisions. It systematically stores case-related files and ensures that the evidence remains admissible in court.

  • CognitiveNet AI:
A powerful analytical tool, it analyses large volumes of data related to a case, including FIRs, crime records, and CCTV footage. It identifies patterns and linkages that may not be detected through routine observation and provides them to investigating officers.

  • Investigation Co-Pilot:
This functions as an AI assistant for investigating officers. It suggests the actions to be taken at various stages of an investigation and assists in drafting case diaries and charge sheets.

  • Docs2Data:
This tool automatically converts paper-based police documents such as memos, orders, and leave applications into digital data, making records management easier.

  • SocInt AI:
This tool monitors social media and other digital platforms for content related to law and order. It keeps watch on violence, threats, and suspicious activities and issues early warnings.

  • News360 AI:
It tracks media coverage related to policing. The tool identifies news reports on crimes and police actions and alerts the concerned officials.

  • AI Foundation:
This is the technological platform that brings all the above AI tools under one umbrella. It ensures data security and system performance and integrates with existing systems such as the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS).

Plan for Statewide Expansion

Officials stated that the project is currently in the pilot phase and that plans are being prepared to expand it across the state within the next three to six months based on the results. Senior officers advised that personnel should be actively trained in these new AI tools and use them responsibly. This initiative aligns with the state government’s broader efforts to integrate technology into governance and public safety. Officials expressed confidence that Andhra Pradesh would emerge as a guiding state in AI-based policing and serve as a model for other states.
