Varanasi: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has initiated a scientific survey to ascertain if the Gyanvapi mosque, located near the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi, was built on a temple site. The survey commenced after the Varanasi Court's order, excluding the sealed Wazu tank, where a 'shivling' is believed to exist. Advocates representing the Hindu side expressed optimism that the survey's outcome would favor their claims. The court directed the ASI to submit its report, including videos and photographs of the survey proceedings, by August 4. The petition for a scientific survey was filed by the Hindu side to investigate the entire Gyanvapi mosque premises.
