New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a plea filed by former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on July 21. This plea is against the Gujarat High Court's decision to deny a stay on his conviction in the 'Modi surname' defamation case. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Rahul Gandhi, urgently requested the court to list the matter either on Friday (July 21) or Monday (July 24). Responding to the request, Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud directed to list the matter for hearing this Friday. The case stems from Rahul Gandhi's statement made during an election rally in Karnataka in April 2019, where he questioned, "How come all thieves have Modi as the common surname?"
