In an appalling rail disaster that unfolded on Friday evening around 7 pm in Balasore, Odisha, over 290 individuals lost their lives, and more than 900 suffered injuries. The catastrophic incident began with the derailment of approximately 10 to 12 coaches of the Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, which veered off onto the adjacent track. This initial catastrophe set off a horrifying chain of events as the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, traveling on the adjacent track, collided with the derailed coaches of the Coromandel Express. The impact triggered the derailment of three to four additional coaches from the Superfast Express. Compounding the tragedy was the involvement of a freight train in the horrific pile-up. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site to assess the situation first-hand. Following his inspection of the site, the Prime Minister proceeded to a local hospital to offer support to the survivors of the devastating rail accident.
