Chennai: A wild elephant named Arikomban, which was translocated to the Periyar Tiger Reserve from Chinnakanal in Idukki on April 29, made its way into Tamil Nadu's Cumbum town on Saturday. Disturbing visuals of the elephant rampaging through the town quickly spread on social media. The chaotic scene resulted in three individuals being injured while attempting to flee from the tusker, with one of them sustaining critical injuries. Additionally, the elephant caused significant damage to autorickshaws and two-wheelers in the area. Reports suggest that the wild elephant was traversing coconut groves adjacent to the roads while moving towards the Cumbum Mettu area. The entry of the wild elephant into Tamil Nadu's forest range has put the state on high alert.
