An elderly woman's struggle to collect her pension has gone viral after a video surfaced on social media. The video shows the 70-year-old woman, Surya Harijan, walking barefoot in the scorching heat, using a broken chair for support, as she travels several kilometers to reach the bank. The incident took place on April 17 in the Jharigaon block of Nabrangpur district in Odisha, India. According to reports, Harijan comes from a destitute background and has no means of transportation to reach the bank. The video was shared by one of the news agencies, and it caught the attention of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. She expressed her shock at seeing the elderly woman walking barefoot for several kilometers in the sun and asked if the State Bank of India (SBI) officials were aware of this. Sitharaman appealed to the bank officials to provide humanitarian assistance to Harijan and asked if there were any bank mitras in the area to assist her.
