Aleti Maheshwar Reddy, a former member of the All India Congress Committee and MLA of Nirmal, resigned from the Congress party by sending his resignation to AICC President Mallikharjun Kharge. Later in the day, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi. This move dealt a significant blow to the Congress party in the district, as Maheshwar Reddy not only resigned from his primary membership but also met with BJP National President JP Nadda and the party's Telangana in-charge Tarun Chugh to officially join the BJP. During the occasion, Maheshwar Reddy was accompanied by Huzurabad MLA Etala Rajender and J Sangappa, while BJP National President Bandi Sanjay and Komati Rajgopal Reddy were also present. In his address, Maheshwar Reddy, who had been a prominent member of the Congress party in Nirmal for nine years, alleged that the Congress had no independent existence and claimed that there was no unity among the party's cadres.
