Nagaland's oldest resident, 121-year-old Pupirei Pfukha, who had lived through both the Spanish flu and World War II, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, according to her great granddaughter Arheno. Though not suffering from any illness, Pfukha's age had debilitated her vision and hearing abilities. Tourists would flock to her village of Kigwema near the capital Kohima to seek her blessings. Pfukha cast her vote in the recent Nagaland assembly polls via postal ballot, and her age of 121 was confirmed through her voter ID card. As she was laid to rest on Thursday afternoon, local organizations paid their last respects. Some locals speculated that a DNA test could confirm Pfukha's age, which they believe may have been even higher.
