Hari Mirchwali Toor Dal


1.Toor dal 1 cup
2. Green chillies cut into 1 inch pieces-4
3.Turmeric powder 1/4 tbsp
4.Mustard seeds 1/2 tbsp
5.Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
6.Pinch of asafoetida
7.Curry leaves
8.Onion finely chopped 1 medium
9.Ginger finely chopped 1 inch
10.Salt to taste
11.Coriander leaves chopped 3 tbsp
12.Coconut grated for garnishing


1.Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan,add mustard seeds,cumin seeds.When the mustard seeds start spluttering and cumin seeds turn into brown add pinch of asafoetida,curry leaves,green chillies and saute for 1/2 minute.
2.Add ginger finely chopped,onion chopped.Saute for 3-4 minutes.
3.Mix the mixture in boiled dal and adjust salt.Add water to adjust consitency and bring it to boil.
4.Cook on simmer for 5 minutes.
5.Serve hot and garnish with finely chopped coriander leaves and fresh coconut.
