Gongura Daal

Gongura Daal


1.Gongura leaves 1/2 bunch
2.Masoor dal 1 cup
3.Salt to taste
4.Oil 1 tbsp
5.Mustard seeds 1/4 tbsp
6.Cumin seeds 1/2 tbsp
7.Asafoetida 1/8 tbsp
8.Turmeric powder 1/4 tbsp
9.Curry leaves
10.Onion 1/2 medium finely chopped
11.Ginger 1/2 tbsp
12.Garlic 1/2 tbsp
13.Chillies to taste
14.Tomatoes chopped 1 medium


1.Pressure cook Masoor Daal with 2 1/2 cups Water and Salt for 1 whistle. Do not open pressure cooker until itself released.
2.Take a pan pour some oil and heat it.
3.Add mustard seeds,cumin seeds and allow them to sizzle.
4.Add Asafoetida, Turmeric Powder and Curry Leaves. Mix.well.
5. Immediately add Onions, Ginger, Garlic, Green Chilies and a little
Salt. Mix and cook for 2-3 minutes until Onions are translucent.
6. Add Gongura Leaves, mix and cook for 7-10 minute,add tomatoes and mix well.
7.Add cooked masoor daal,water as we need for consistency and adjust salt.Remove from heat and serve hot.
