Lauki Chana Dal


1.Bottle gourd 1 medium
2.Chana dal 1/2 cup
3.Oil 2 tbsp
4.Cumin seeds 1/2 tbsp
5.Pinch of asafoetida
6.Red chillies 2 whole
7.Ginger shredded 1 tbsp
8.Turmeric powder 1/4 tbsp
9.Red chilli powder 1/2 tbsp
10.Salt to taste
11.Garam masala powder 1/2 tbsp
12.Coriander leaves 2 tbsp
13.Mango powder 1 tbsp


1.Wash and soak chana dal for 1 hour.
2.Peel, wash and cut bottle gourd into ½ inch cubes.
3.Heat some oil in a pan,add in cumin seeds,asafoetida,whole red chillies and stir fry for few seconds.
4.Next add ginger shredded,turmeric and red chilli powder,stir fry for few seconds.
5.Add chana dal,bottle gourd,salt and 1 cup water.Cook till chana dal is done and soft.
6.Turn off the heat and add mango powder, garam masala, and cilantro. Stir and cover the pan for few minutes before serving.
