Mixed Dal

Mixed Dal


1.Urad dal 1/4 cup
2.Moong dal 1/4 cup
3.Masoor dal 1/4 cup
4.Toor dal 1/4 cup
5.Turmeric powder 1/2 tbsp
6.Minced ginger 1 tbsp
7.Salt to taste
8.Garam masala powder 1/2 tbsp
9.Mango powder 1/2 tbsp
10.Butter 4 tbsp
11.Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
12.Asafoetida 1/8 tbsp
13.Red chillies 4
14.Red chilli powder 1/2 tbsp


1.Combine all dals, wash and soak in approx. 4 cups of water for at least 30 minutes.
2.In a pressure cooker add dal with 3 cups of water, salt, turmeric, ginger and cook on medium high heat.
3.As pressure cooker starts steaming, turn down the heat to medium and cook for 7 minutes.
4.Adjust the water consistency if dal is thick,add garam masala,mango powder and mix well.
5.Heat ghee in a pan,add in cumin seeds,asafoetida,red chilies and red chili powder. Stir for a few seconds.
6.Now pour the tempering mixture on top of dal.Serve hot.
