Governor Tamilisai calls for empowerment of persons with disabilities

Hyderabad, Dec 3: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday called for the creation of enabling eco-system for the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

She said that it was vital to ensure the equal opportunities and access to all the facilities to persons with disabilities on a priority basis.

The Governor, as the chief guest, was participating in a special function organized at the National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (NIEPID), here, on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan emphasized while quoting the call given by Hon’ble Prime Minister shri Narendra Modiji  for collective working towards ensuring opportunities and improving accessibility for our Divyang sisters and brothers stressed on the need to integrate persons with disabilities in every aspect of social, economical, political, and cultural spheres of life.

“It must be our collective endeavour to create a more considerate, empowering, and inclusive society for the persons with disabilities. We must promote their full and equal participation and take action for their inclusion in all aspects of society and development,” she added.

The Governor stated that better awareness among all the sections of the people on the issues and causes of intellectual disabilities will help reduce the incidence.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that Divyangjan, the persons with disabilities, need to consider themselves as having the divine bodies to overcome their disability and utilize their potential to the optimal level.

The Governor lauded the amazing cultural performances by the students of the institute. The Governor saluted the trainers and the teachers at the institute for their efforts and initiatives.

Later, she presented the awards and citations to those who excelled in different aspects of training at the institute.

Major BV Ram Kumar, Director, National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities and others were present. 
Governor presents laptops and tabs to the needy students:
Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has handed over 20 laptops and a couple of tabs to the needy students at a special function held at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Friday.

The presentation of the laptops and tabs to the students from the deprived sections was part of the special initiative titled “Donate a device campaign,” launched by the Governor.

The initiative is aimed at enabling the students from the underprivileged sectionswho could not afford gadgets to continue their education in an online mode to continue their online education on a par with other privileged students.

Among those who got the laptops and tabs also included some persons with disabilities.

Earlier, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan gave a clarion call to the IT companies, corporate, organizations, and other philanthropists to donate laptops and tabs for the benefit of the needy students belonging to the downtrodden sections and other underprivileged groups.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Soundararajan stated that she was inspired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for the collective working towards ensuring opportunities and improving accessibility for the Divyang sisters and brothers coinciding with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

“I am really moved by the digital deprivation being experienced by the students belonging to the downtrodden sections and I have initiated this campaign with an objective to bridge the digital divide,” she added.

Most of the beneficiaries who were presented with the laptops and tabs on the occasion belonged to the tribal communities, who are pursuing their higher education.M/s Ram’s Helping Hand, a non-governmental organization donated these electronic gadgets.
 
The beneficiaries were visibly moved by the gesture of the Governor in presenting them with the laptops and tabs and thanked the Governor for her care towards them.

In this program, Gorantla Ramesh, Trustee, Ram’s Helping Hand,Gowri Sarkar, Principal, Delhi Public School, Sunkavalli Rama Krishna, Chartered Accountant participated.
