Master Bhuvan from India becomes youngest to scale Mount Elbrus

Andhra Pradesh boy Master Gandham Bhuvan Jai, at the age of 8 years 3 months has become the youngest to scale Mount Elbrus (Highest peak in Europe continent – one of the seven summits) by reaching summit of Mt. Elbrus (5642mtr.) on 18th Sep, 2021. Mount Elbrus is the highest peak in Europe, and one of the Seven Summits. It presents a strenuous and there is the danger of weather and exposure, making it cold and committing; it is necessary to have technical preparation, Physical conditioning, warm clothing, and good equipment for summit day. With an elevation of 5642metres, Mt Elbrus is a fine ascent that requires mountaineering skills, although altitude and unpredictable weather make for a challenging and adventurous trip. Master Bhuvan Jai, is class 3 student. He hails from Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Master Bhuvan has been enthusiastic in sports, and shown keen interest in climbing and mountaineering. Considering his interest and zeal, he is being supported by parents to get trained in climbing, high altitude treks and mountaineering.

His father is a noted IAS officer, Gandham Chandrudu IAS, who is fondly referred as People’s Collector by the people of Ananthapuram, when he was Collector of Ananthapuram district. Seeing Master Bhuvan’s keen interest in adventure activities and energy, right from young age, his parents encouraged him by providing the required training under the Sports coach Mr. Shankaraiah. Mr Shankariah, the sports coach of Rural Development Trust(RDT) of Ananthapuram district took personal interest in training Master Bhuvan. He himself is a mountaineer and scaled Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak and one of the summit peaks last year. He trained several other boys and girls in various sports. Later technical and altitude training been provided at Adventure Sports academy, Gandikota, Kadapa District, Andhra Pradesh.

The expedition team consist of: Mr. Shankaraiah, a Sports coach from RDT, Ananthapur., Mr. Anminsh Bhupathi Raju Varma from Visakhapatnam, who climbed Mt. Everest during May 2021 and he also brought laurels to our country by winning Gold Medals for INDIA in several kick boxing international championships., Mr. Naveen Mallesh from Bangalore. Master Bhuvan has reached the summit of Mount Elbrus on 18th Sep 2021 at 8:00 AM (Moscow time) and displayed Indian tri color flag on the summit.

Climbing Itinerary:

11th Sep 2021:  Team started from India to Russia by flight.
12th Sep 2021:   Reached the base of Mount Elbrush – Terskol.
13th Sep 2021:   Climbed up to 3500mtr for acclimatization and back to base camp.
14th Sep 2017:   Climbed to 3500mts and night halt
15th Sep 2021:   Moved to camp at 4000mtr. Climbed up to 4300mtr for acclimatization.
16th Sep 2021:   Climbed up to 4800mtr for acclimatization and back to 4000mtr camp.
17th Sep 2021:   Revision of Climbing techniques and practice. 
18th Sep 2021:   Reached the summit of Mount Elbrus – 5642mtr. (18,510ft).
19th Sep 2021:   Reached the base of Mount Elbrush – Terskol

Team is descending to base camp now. After successful completion of expedition team will reach back to India on 23rd Sep 2021. Master Bhuvan Jai, credits his achievements to the opportunity provided to him by parents and the Constitution of India. He says in a video message further that “There are many talented children out there, who, if provided the opportunity, can achieve what they want to and hoped that such an opportunity is provided to all those.”
