‘Sindhu is not only the pride of Telugu states but also the entire Nation’ said Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan, speaking at the function organized at Raj Bhavan Durbar Hall at Vijayawada on Friday, to felicitate P.V. Sindhu on her stupendous achievement of winning the Women’s Singles Championship at the Badminton World Federation 2019 held at Basel, Switzerland. The Governor Harichandan said he was anxiously waiting to meet Sindhu, the beloved daughter of Telugu people after she won the championship and it was a privilege to felicitate her and that he was overwhelmed with joy now that Sindhu has come to Raj Bhavan.
The Governor said Sindhu displayed exceptional performance during the final match and won the Championship over the opponent and the whole country was watching with great interest. The Governor Harichandan also congratulated Sindhu’s parents and Pullela Gopichand, National Badminton Coach and said the encouragement and support are given to her by her Coach and her parents also helped her in winning the championship and wished Sindhu to win many more such championships in the future. Governor Harichandan felicitated Sindhu by the presentation of a shawl and a memento.
Responding to the felicitations, Sindhu said she felt very happy coming to AP Raj Bhavan and it was a great honour for her to receive felicitations from the Governor and with the blessings of all people, she will continue to work harder and win many more laurels for the country.
Earlier, speaking on the occasion Muthamsetti Srinivasa Rao, Minister for Tourism, Sports and Culture said the victory of P.V. Sindhu is the victory of all Telugu people and wished her good luck in her future endeavours. Praveen Kumar, Principal Secretary, Sports & Youth Welfare, Katamneni Bhaskar, MD., AP Sports Authority, Mukesh Kumar Meena, Secretary to Governor, Arjuna Rao, Joint Secretary have also attended the programme. Several dignitaries and eminent personalities in the field of sports also participated in the function.
