Governor released special covers on Geographical indications in Telangana
Hyderabad: Today (23-01-2021), Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Hon’ble Governor of Telangana released four Special Covers on 1) Cheriyal Paintings of Siddipet, 2) Nirmal Paintings of Nirmal District, 3) Gadwal Saris of Mahabubnagar District, and 4) Silver Filigree Work of Karimnagar District which are unique to Telangana and have GI Tags. Shri A.K. Poddar, Additional Director General, Postal Directorate, New Delhi, Shri S Rajendra Kumar, Chief Postmaster General, Telangana Circle and other dignitaries have attended the programme at Raj Bhavan, Hyderabad. On this occasion Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Hon’ble Governor of Telangana appreciated the efforts of Telangana Postal Circle for conceiving this novel thought of issuing special covers on GI Tag products and executing the same which aids not only in supporting some of these dying craft norms, but also make them self reliant and “Atmanirbhar”. She further announced that the Raj Bhavan would use these covers for all it’s official usage.
On this occasion, A.K. Poddar, Additional Director General, Postal Directorate, New Delhi elucidated the importance of Geographical Indication of Goods and Products and its contribution to promotion of National and International Tourism, contribution of handloom and handicrafts to export earning which in turns promotes economic prosperity of the producers and goods produced in the Geographical territory.
