Telangana Governor calls for clean and green energy promotion

Hyderabad, Jan 16: Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan on Saturday called for the promotion of clean and green energy to protect the planet earth and ensure the survival of life on the earth.

She said indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources and the burning of fossil fuels were resulting in the high levels of pollution causing global warming.

“The indiscriminate destruction of nature has resulted in the present Covid-19 pandemic crisis causing disruption of activities in almost all the spheres of life,” she added.

The Governor was virtually inaugurating the month-long Samrakshana-Kshamata Mahotsav-(SAKSHAM-2021), organised by the State Level Coordinator for Oil Industry in Telangana.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan stated that it was high time to promote the clean, green, and renewable energy use at all levels so as to reduce the pollution levels in our country in view of the fact that India is the third largest energy consumer in the world.

“We need to emerge as the global power house of green energy in the days to come. As per our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atma Nirbhar Bharath vision, we must become self-reliant in energy sector. We cannot afford to continue to import oil and gas from other countries as they are draining our valuable foreign exchange,” she added.

Referring to the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the Governor said that during the last six years the LPG coverage in the country has seen a surge from 55% to 98%.

The Ujjwala Yojana has saved the health of millions of women by ensuring their access to LPG thus avoiding the use of highly polluting logwoods or coal for cooking.

The Governor said that the policy reforms and initiatives in the energy sector of the country were effectively addressing issues like energy access, efficiency, affordability, sustainability, and energy security of the country.

“We all must be part of energy preservation and conservation. We need to promote the use of green and renewable energy at all levels. Especially the younger generation has a greater role to play in ensuring pollution-free world,” she added.

Different oil companies representatives including State Level Coordinator J M Naik, Shravan S Rao (IOC), Narasimha CK (HPCL), Saibal Mukherji (BPCL), Sanjay Shinde (GAIL-India), and Hari Kelothu of Petroleum Conservation Research Association were present.
