HYSEA launches Campaign to Reduce Single-use-plastic in the IT Corridor

- IT Fraternity pledges to reduce use of single-use-plastic

A round table meeting of IT companies was organized in this regard at Club Botanika. At the launch of this initiative for the member companies, a comprehensive handbook was released, authored by Wing Commander B Srikanth, Director – APAC, Real Estate & Facilities, Pegasystems Worldwide India, and Mohammad Sharfoddin, Head – Centre of Excellence, Environment Health and Safety, Cognizant Technologies. This guide is designed to assist businesses in meeting their commitments to be single-use-plastic free and thereby contribute positively towards the betterment of the city.
This effort is a small step but has immense potential by way of guiding member companies and all others in helping them transform their businesses to achieve the final goal of reducing the use of single-use-plastics. HYSEA’s Infrastructure Forum is taking the lead to ensure that the IT fraternity of Hyderabad takes small steps towards reducing single-use-plastic and spread the word so the adoption can be 100% across the IT Corridor.
Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Principal Secretary, ITE&C Dept, Govt of Telangana, was the Chief Guest on the occasion and launched the handbook and the poster virtually. In his address, he congratulated HYSEA for launching this initiative and said, “IT Industry has always been supportive of Environment and sustainability initiatives in the past whether it was Haritha-Haram or Ground Water recharge initiative and I wish this new initiative a grand success”. He also added that the key to the success of this initiative will be how we are able to influence behavioral changes in our organizations and in the community at large.
The IT Fraternity also took a pledge to make single-use-plastic a thing of the past
" I, on behalf of my organisation and my community, pledge to avoid and reduce single-use-plastic in our offices, business parks, and communities. I will take all action necessary and encourage others to do the same, to reduce and eventually eliminate single-use-plastic from the premises we are associated with. We shall socialise this within our offices, amongst our employees and other stakeholders, and also educate them to adhere to this in their day to day lives.
I pledge to create a positive change in this regard. "
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Ramesh Kaza, HYSEA Infrastructure Forum Leader & Country Head – IT & CIO, State Street, said, “Improving environment is not only good for us to have a better life, it will also create a better world to live in for the future generations. We can collectively pledge to stop using single-use-plastic and ensure the word spreads across the city. Let the IT Fraternity of Hyderabad take baby steps towards banning use of single-use-plastic and spread the word so the adoption can be 100% across the city and state”, he said.
Mr. Bharani Aroll, President, HYSEA and CEO, Infopeers in his address stressed the need to raise public awareness about plastic waste, restrict toxic and avoidable plastic usage, and improve plastic waste management for recycling and remanufacturing.
In a message on the occasion, Mr. C. P. Gurnani, CEO & MD, Tech Mahindra congratulated HYSEA Infrastructure Forum for taking up this important initiative making Hyderabad the flagbearer and leader in holistic development. He felt this initiative would go a long way in helping with climate management. He wished the initiative a grand success.
Mr. Amarnath Reddy, CRO, ITE&C Department, Mr. Ram Prasad, Director, STPI – Hyderabad, Mr. Vinod Kumar, Zonal Manager, TSIIC, Mr. Krishna Yedula, Head of Virtusa and Secretary, SCSC, R. Srinivas Rao, COO – HYSEA and Facilities heads from TCS, Cognizant, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Deloitte, and other corporates participated in the round table meeting and shared the best practices being already implemented in their campuses.
