Deadly fire breaks out at Pertamina fuel storage station in Jakarta, Indonesia
Hyderabad: An official from Jakarta's main firefighting unit has reported that a fire at an Indonesia state energy company Pertamina's fuel storage station has claimed the lives of at least 17 people. The incident occurred in the capital city, Jakarta, and caused panic among nearby residents, some of whom fled their homes with their belongings. Footage from broadcasters showed that the fire had burned down several houses.
A spokesperson from Pertamina stated that the fire was brought under control at around 10:30 pm on Friday. However, a firefighting station official reported on the unit's Instagram account that fire could still be seen around some residents' houses after the extinguishment.
According to Rahmat Kristanto, an official at the firefighting unit, 50 people, including a child, were injured in the incident. Two of the fatalities were children.
