Wild elephant create chaos in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: A tuskless male elephant that recently strayed out of the Anamalai Tiger Reserve in Pollachi reached the city limits of Coimbatore on Wednesday. The 40-year-old elephant was captured in Palacode on February 5 and translocated to Varagaliyar in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve on February 6 after raiding crops since October 2022. The elephant was first spotted in the Madukkarai range at 3am and passed through several locations, including farmlands and human inhabited areas in Madukkarai taluk.
During the elephant's journey, an 80-year-old man from Madukkarai was injured when he was pushed away by the elephant's trunk, and a forest vehicle was also damaged. Forest field teams from various ranges were continuously monitoring the elephant's movements to ensure public safety.
