New Delhi: Swati Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Commission for Women, alleged that she was physically assaulted by a car driver while conducting a "reality check" on the safety of women in the capital on Wednesday night. According to Maliwal, she was dragged 15 meters near the AIIMS hospital in Delhi after the driver trapped her arm in the car window when she tried to stop him.
In a video of the incident, Swati Maliwal is seen refusing a ride from the driver and stepping away from the car. The driver is then seen driving away and making a U-turn to return to Maliwal. She can be heard in the video saying that this is the second time the driver has approached her and she does not want the ride.
Swati Maliwal tweeted about the incident, saying "if the Chairperson of the Women's Commission is not safe in Delhi, then imagine the situation." The police arrested the accused Harish Chandra after receiving a complaint from her.
