Bandi Sanjay arrest issue: Parliament Privilege Committee issues order to DOPT and Central Home Ministry

The Lok Sabha Committee on Privileges has sent notifications to the DOPT and the Central Home Ministry. It has also asked that the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police provide an explanation in connection with BJP MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar's violation of privileges charge. The officials have been summoned to appear before the panel on February 3 to give oral evidence in response to a complaint filed by a Lok Sabha member from Karimnagar.

Bandi Sanjay Kumar filed a complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on January 3 against Karimnagar Police personnel for illegally detaining him and attempting to take him before the court for custody in connection with the filing of false allegations against him. On January 21, the BJP MP appeared before the 15-member Privileges Committee and detailed how the police allegedly mistreated him. He requested the panel to take action against the involved police personnel.
