Vangaveeti family member opposes for Vijayawada naming after NTR

The Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy chose to turn the city of Vijayawada into a district, and was named after late actor and former combined Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR). Though NTR supporters and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supporters applauded the government's decision to name Vijayawada district after the great leader who campaigned for Telugu Vari Atma Gauravam, the Telugu community's self-respect, a Vangaveeti family member opposed.

Vangaveeti Narayana Rao's son, a BJP leader Narendra, who contested in the Vijayawada East constituency in the 2019 General Elections, wanted that the district should be called after Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga, who gave his life fighting for the people.
