Centre once again gives clarity on AP Special Status
The NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has stated unambiguously that there is no chance of granting Andhra Pradesh special status. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityananda Roy stated in a letter response to MP Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu's question that the special status was a closed chapter and that the Centre was ready to provide a special package as previously agreed. It stated that the Centre was making every effort to reach an agreement on outstanding concerns.
The Centre has also said that funds will be allocated in a 90:10 ratio for all centrally funded schemes as special assistance. The Government said unequivocally that the special status was a closed chapter after the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission were made public.
