WHO approval for Covaxin delayed again
The World Health Organization took some more time to give its decision to include Covaxin in its Emergency Use List. It has delayed over technical queries and was postponed yet again after the UN health body needed further clarification from Bharat Biotech. In a crucial update sent on Wednesday, WHO top scientist Soumya Swaminathan stated that the Technical Advisory Group for Emergency Use Listing needs further information in order to complete a final risk-benefit analysis for worldwide use of this COVID-19 vaccine. This is an impartial advisory board that makes recommendations on whether a new coronavirus vaccination should be listed for use in an emergency. On July 9, Bharat Biotech submitted the evidence necessary for WHO approval of Covaxin.
Covaxin is a vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research and the National Institute of Virology.
