Breaking News: Covaxin for kids in 2-18 age group gets DCGI approval
The Covid-19 Subject Expert Committee of the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on Tuesday gave emergency approval for Bharat Biotech's vaccine, Covaxin, for use in children aged 2 to 18. This comes after Bharat Biotech had concluded Phase-2 and Phase-3 trials of Covaxin on youngsters under the age of 18 in September.
The study data was submitted to the DCGI earlier this month. According to the DCGI, “after careful consideration, the committee recommended the issuance of market authorisation to youngsters aged 2 to 18 years.” According to sources, the vaccine manufactured in India would be given in two doses, with a 20-day interval between the first and second.
