Sonia Gandhi's aide Oscar Fernandes passes away at 80
Oscar Fernandes, a senior Congress politician and former union minister, died on Monday at a private hospital in Mangaluru. He was 80 years old. He was admitted to the hospital in July after collapsing at home while practising yoga. The five-time Lok Sabha MP from Udupi in Karnataka, known as Sonia Gandhi's closest assistant, has managed several trouble circumstances for the grand old party over the years.
Fernandes had served as Cabinet Minister for Transport, Roads, and Highways in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance administration. He was also in-charge of the Labour and Employment Ministry.
