Lok Sabha passes Constitution Amendment Bill to restore rights to states on OBC list
The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed a Constitution Amendment Bill, which requires a special majority for passage in both Houses of Parliament, to restore the power to states to make their own OBC lists. Opposition parties have extended support for amendments to the Bill in the Lower House.
The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar. According to reports, the opposition MPs will support the Central government in passage of the OBC Bill in Rajya Sabha. Once the Bill is passed then it will benefit 671 castes in the country.
