Tokyo Olympics: Boxer Lovlina Borgohain loses in semis, settles for bronze medal
Boxer Lovlina Borgohain has secured a bronze medal for India after suffering a defeat in the semi-final bout of the women’s welterweight category. She lost to Turkish boxer Busenaz Surmeneli. The 23-year-old gave her best but could not withstand before the reigning world champion.
Lovlina is the second Indian woman after the Mary Kom to win the Olympic medal. She moved to the semis after beating Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nein-Chin. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju in a tweet said, “Dear @LovlinaBorgohai, you have made our country proud! Hearty congratulations on winning Olympic Bronze medal!”
