Suresh Raina’s ‘I am Brahmin’ remark during commentary lands him in controversy
22-07-2021 Thu 14:25
Suresh Raina, a former India cricketer, caused outrage by associating Chennai’s culture with his Brahmin background during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
“I believe, I am also a Brahmin. I've been performing in Chennai since 2004 and I like the city's culture. My colleagues are fantastic. I've played alongside Anirudha Srikkanth, S Badrinath, and Bala Bhai,” he said at the first match of the 5th season of the TNPL, when questioned about his connections with Chennai.
His remarks have sparked outrage on social media. Raina has been with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from the league’s inception, with the exception of the two seasons when the franchise was suspended in 2016 and 2017.
