Centre extended tenure of Krishna Tribunal by one more year
The Union Jal Shakti Ministry issued a notification extending the tenure of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) for a period of one year from August 1, 2021. KWDT was constituted in 2004 to resolve water sharing issues between Maharashtra, Karnataka and combined state of Andhra Pradesh.
In 2010, the Krishna Tribunal had submitted its report to the Centre. After receiving the report, the Centre dissolved the KWDT. However, three states raised several objections over the report in 2011. The Tribunal was revived again to resolve water disputes between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states.
