India strongly condemned the killing of Reuters photojournalist Danish Siddiqui in Afghanistan. Speaking at the UN Security Council, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla expressed concern over violence against humanitarian workers in armed conflict situations. “We condemn the killing of Indian photojournalist Danish Siddiqui in Afghanistan's Kandahar. I extend our sincerest condolences to his bereaved family,” he said.
The 38-year-old was on a reporting assignment in Afghanistan when he died. The Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist was killed in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar city while covering clashes between Afghan troops and the Talibans.
