West Bengal CM Mamata challenges Nandigram poll result in Calcutta High Court
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee moved to Calcutta High Court on Thursday challenging the Nandigram Assembly constituency’s election result. The HC will hear her petition on Friday. The CM filed a plea in the court alleging EVM machines were tampered and the Election Commission of India (ECI) refused her demand of recounting.
It is known that BJP's Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata in Nandigram. As per reports, 1,10,764 votes were polled in favour of Suvendu and Mamata had secured 1,08,808 votes. At one stage, some channels have reported that Mamata won the election but the EC declared Suvendu as the winner.
