Mahatma Gandhi's great-granddaughter jailed for 7 years
A Durban court in South Africa has sentenced Ashish Lata Ramgobin, great-granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi, to seven years in jail after she found guilty in Rs 3.22 crore fraud case. In 2015, she had showed forged documents related to import and custom duties for a non-existent consignment from India to businessman SR Maharaj and took money from him.
Lata also promised to share profits with him. Coming to know about the fraud, Maharaj had registered a complaint against her. The 56-year-old is the daughter of prominent human rights activist Ela Gandhi.
