People vaccinatated with Covaxin not allowed to abroad; Covaxin not on WHO list
According to a report, Covaxin, a wholly indigenous vaccine developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech, has not been included in World Health Organization’s (WHO) Emergency Use Listing (EUL) yet. This report has reportedly created a problem as people taking this vaccine cannot travel in the US and UK. The entry of travellers to these countries is reportedly based on recommendations of their respective health departments. Reports suggest that a total of 19 vaccines found a place in WHO's emergency use listing.
On the other hand, Covishield is manufactured by the Serum Institute of India(SII) in association with AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford, and hence it is not completely indigenous. The central government has become alerted and started consulting the WHO for endorsement. Indian foreign embassy is likely to conduct a meeting with the representatives of the Bharat Biotech tomorrow on this issue.
