COVID-19 vaccine: Have you taken Covishield second dose after 6-8 weeks?
The government has recently sent advisories asking states to push the time interval between the two doses of Covishield from the earlier 6-8 weeks to 8-16 weeks. There is growing concern among those who took the second jab after the earlier prescribed interval of 6-8 weeks. With the new advisories are in force, these people are worried if the vaccine they have taken will be effective against severe COVID-19.
Reacting to the sense of fear among people, Dr E Venkata Rao, Site Investigator, Covaxin Trial, Bhubaneswar, has shared the efficacy of vaccine depending on the antibodies they produce in the course of a period and the individual capacity level. However, the doctor said that it is not a significant concern. He said if the gap period is increased from the earlier 6-8 weeks to 8-16 weeks, it will be a little advantageous. He has compared the risk period associated if taken earlier than that of the delayed program.
