EC postpones MLA quota MLC elections in AP and Telangana
The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced a temporary halt to the upcoming MLA quota MLC elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. CEC has decided that it is not appropriate to hold elections during the covid pandemic. It has made it clear that there would be no elections until the pandemic situation is improved significantly.
Elections for six MLC seats in the Telangana MLA quota and three MLC seats in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled to be held this month. The Central Election Commission(CEC) has issued a statement stating that there will be no elections as the second wave of coronavirus is spreading across the country. The tenure of six MLCs in Telangana will end soon, on June 3 next month. The term of office for the three MLCs in the AP will end on May 31. Everyone hoped that the CEC would issue a notification to hold elections for the vacant seats.
