Supreme Court issues orders to release all eligible prisoners
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India on Saturday directed to decongest the prisons and ordered to release of the prisoners who were granted bail or parole. The Apex Court took the decision amid the increasing COVID-19 positive cases across the nation. The Court also ordered the prisons to release the re-imprisoned prisoners immediately.
Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justice L Nageshwara Rao and justice Surya Kant stated that the prisoners who were granted parole, according to our earlier orders should be granted parole for 90 days period to contain the COVID pandemic. There is a surge in COVID cases across the nation.
