Surge in covid cases: Kerala imposes complete lockdown from May 8 to 16
The Kerala government imposed complete lockdown from May 8 to 16 after the state reported 41,953 new fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has requested him to supply 1,000 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen immediately. The state is in need of 108 metric tonnes (MT) of oxygen every day.
Besides, the CM also sought 50 lakh doses of Covishield and 25 lakh doses of Covaxin for the state. Kerala registered a single biggest surge on Wednesday.
