High Court stays parishad elections in AP
06-04-2021 Tue 16:16
After hearing arguments of lawyers representing the TDP, BJP and Jana Sena, the High Court on Tuesday gave stay on ZPTC and MPTC elections. Petitioners raised objection over lack of four weeks gap between the notification and polling date.
The opposition parties challenged the notification issued by State Election Commissioner Nilam Sawhney for holding the parishad elections on April 8.
The High Court directed the State Election Commission (SEC) to file counter affidavit before April 15. Meanwhile, the SEC and AP government may approach the Supreme Court over the High Court stay.
