24-03-2021 Wed 11:34
After the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant privatization issue, the Vijayawada railway station's news in privatization shook Andhra Pradesh. Railway Employees Unions, South Central Railway Mazdoor Union, and left parties have raised objections over govt's decision to award Vijayawada Railway Station to private companies on lease. The privatization of Vijayawada Railway Station is getting controversial as the center is reportedly planning to give it 99 years lease period. Some of the opposition political parties have alleged that public assets are converted into private in the name of development. The opposition has been questioning why it is willing to make it private when it is in profit. TDP MLA Gorantla Buchiah Chowdhary has tweeted on this aspect and asked the State government for its silence. CPM senior leader Madhu has faulted the center and clarified that the center would have to face its price. On the other hand, YSRCP MLA Malladi Vishnu said there was no official information about privatization to the Vijayawada railway station.
