Nallamothu Sridhar on new rules for social media, OTT platforms
The Centre's new regulations on restricting social media in the nation triggered a debate on media platforms. It is known that on Thursday the Central government announced new rules and regulation for social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and OTT platform Netflix. The rules stated they need to remove any content raised by authorities within 36 hours and need to disclose the details of the origin of the message. Now, tech expert Sridhar Nallamothu shared his opinion on the Centre's decision. Speaking to the interview, he said that earlier no social media platforms didn't react properly during the investigation.
He said that IT minister Ravishankar Prasad in the past requested the social media giants to place servers in India and asked to extend their support during the investigation, but they ignored. He further added that the new rules will become a weapon to the police department to fight against fake and hatred content which are spreading on social media.
