Google removes some personal loan apps from store
04-02-2021 Thu 21:46
According to government sources, search giant Google has removed approximately 100 personal loan apps from the play store between December 2020-January 2021. These money lending apps were reportedly not in compliance with the applicable legal and regulatory framework. Google has clarified that it has removed certain money lending apps as they violated its user safety policies. However, the search giant has not revealed the number of these apps or their names.
Minister of State for Electronics and IT Sanjay Dhotre has mentioned it in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. The Minister has mentioned that the complaints were made related to high-interest rates, alleged personal data collection, misuse, and other fraudulent and unlawful practices to recover the loan.
