SII CEO Adar gets covid shot on first day of vaccine drive, says endorsing safety

Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India, was vaccinated on India’s day one of immunisation against Covid-19. SII, the world’s largest vaccine-maker by volume, is manufacturing Covishield, a vaccine developed by Oxford University and pharma major AstraZeneca. Covishield is one of two vaccines cleared for emergency use in India by regulators.
Poonawalla said he was endorsing the vaccine’s safety and efficacy. Earlier, Adar had tweeted when the vaccines were being shipped out. He tweeted, “An emotional moment for the team at SII as the first shipment of Covishield finally leaves for multiple locations across India.”
